Dialogue on youth social issues

Hey guys, I just backed from a dialogue which was held in Jaya 33, Section 14, Petaling Jaya. The dialogue with the title of “Pressing on Youth Social Problems” was organized by Young Leader International (YLI), which is founded by Auntie Ong Eng Eng (Surprise!!!-.-!!!)

Throughout the dialogue, 4 scenes (rape, missing children, gangsters and teenage pregnancy) were acted out by the youths of YLI. After each sketch, there will be an open dialogue between the youths and the parents regarding the related issues.

Surprisingly, I found that those youths are quite matured as they were giving their opinions. And, I kept observing the dialogue and I learnt about the different perspective that how people looked at the current youth and social issues. There were parents who hold the conservative views and of course, there are some that are open-minded.

The last sketch really shocked me! The father that played a guidance role turned up to be the rapist while the teenage girl’s boyfriend took the role to take care of her instead. The surrounded people do not trust the teenage girl who has been raped by her father. Although this is only a sketch, but it raises a question: why people tend to have the stereotypes that the strangers (boyfriend) will be the rapist instead of the family members (father). I admitted that I have a thought of the boyfriend is the rapist instead of the father role in the sketch initially.

WOW!!! Are people in this society having the same stereotype as what I have?

Would we take in account even though we knew the facts?

What’s wrong to our society?

This sounds scared!!!!

Although we were trained to be a non-judgmental one, but we can’t deny that we are still human being..I think I need to take account of my thoughts before having any judgment on any issues.. it sounds theoretical and easy.. but it not gotta be the easy stuff for me..

Haha!!! I was so grateful that I attend this dialogue.. at least I learnt something.. something that I never thought of it before. One thing that is quite wasted is the dialogue was held after we submitted our adolescent psychology assignment..-.-!!!

Coz the dialogue provided many information about the substance abuse and teenage pregnancy.. including the details of the statistics and case study.. if I found this dialogue earlier, I don’t need to crack my head in finding the info for assignment-.-!!!

Some more I can use the dialogue as one of my interventions since it was quite effective..

Haha.. all of this comes to the matter of faith..

No matter how, at least I attended it.. lets share some photos that I have taken from the dialogue just now…^^
